Abstract
The authors observed and analyzed clinically 55 patients with Hodgkin¡¯s disease who
were confirmed and classified histopathologicallu at Presbyterian Medical Center, Chonju,
from March, 1971 to October, 1980.
The following results were obtained :
1. Incidence of Hodgkin¡¯s disease was 0.64% of all malignant neoplasms which were
congirmed at our Hodgkin¡¯s, and 17.8% of all malignant lymphomas during the period
of observation.
2. Sex ration was 2.7 : 1. with male predominance. The highest age incidence was
found in the over 45 year old group(45.5%).
3. Incidence of histopathological subtype by Rye classification was as follows;
lymphocyte predominant was 30.9%, mix cellularity 32.7%, lymphocyte depletion 25.5%
and nodular sclerosis 10.9%, which was of the lowest incidence.
4. Clinical stage by Ann Arbor staging classification as follows; Stage ¥° was 29.1%,
¥± 30.9%, ¥² 30.9%, ¥³ 9.1%, and lymphocyte predominant showed more prevalent in
stage ¥°¡¥±(82.3%), which lymphocyte depletion was mor frequent in stage ¥²¡¥³
(79%).
5. Favorable site of lymph node involovement was cerical in 65.5%, axillary in 27.3%,
and inguinal in 22.7%. Extranodal involvenlent was 20%, involving gastro-intestinal
tract, 18.2% mediastinum, and 5.5% in the nasopharynx.
6. Superficial lymph ncde enlargement was noted in 87.3% of all patients as the initial
subjective symptom, followed by fever, symptoms of involvement of gastrc-intestinal
tract, respiratory system, and general weakness in that order.
7. Lymphangiography as a means of clinical staging shoved 7 positive out of 10, liver
scanning 7 out of 12, and bone marrow aspiration 5 out of 12.
8. Good response 19 treatment showed 69.2% with radiation therapy, 70% with
combinatign chemotherapy, and 71.4% with combination chemotherapy together with
radiation therapy. Especially in lymphocyte predominant cases which shoved 83.3%
response rate with radiation therapy, and 100% response in the 3 cases treated by
means of combination chemotherapy together with radiation therapy.
